How to support small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis

The global pandemic is wreaking havoc on small businesses and their owners' livelihoods, so it's important for us to each do what we can to help support small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. Thankfully, whether you currently have cash to spare or not, there are so many ways to do this!

  1. Buy a gift card. This will give your favourite boutique, hair salon, restaurant, gym or bar a few dollars to help get them through the next few months. And the best part? When this is all over, you can treat yourself to a day at your favourite spot!

  2. Order online. If you've been eyeing a certain something from a sustainable or ethical clothing, household goods, food or coffee brand, now is the time to place your order if you can.

  3. Keep your membership or subscription. Again, if you are able to help put a few extra bucks into the pocket of a small business owner by keeping your membership or subscription to their yoga studio, dance classes, music lessons or cleaning service, it's a great way to support them!

  4. Re-share their posts on social media. It's totally free and helps to get their brand in front of new eyes. So even if you are also struggling financially right now (as so many of us are!) you might expose them to someone who will spend some cash with their business.

  5. Like and comment on their social media. The current situation is mentally so tough for so many small business owners. I've seen many of them asking for simple moral support online so they can keep fighting for their businesses. Dropping a like and comment on their posts goes a long way to making them feel like they're not alone in this.
