Interview with Polly of Growfish - a digital marketing agency for purpose-driven brands

Hi everyone, today I’m interviewing Polly, a fellow entrepreneur in the digital marketing space, who also focuses on helping purpose-driven brands grow. Check out her interview below and don’t forget to visit her online!

What was your personal journey to starting Growfish?

After working in marketing for over a decade and witnessing the many evolutions within the digital industry I wanted to see whether it was possible to create a truly sustainable business using design and tech for good. I firmly believe that all industries have a responsibility to be greener as the environmental issues that currently dominate the planet can only be changed with an innovative, human-led approach. The internet is as polluting as the entire airline industry put together so it's vital we start to prioritise greener websites and become more mindful of how we use technology, as its resource heavy and time is running out. We all deserve to live in an environment that enables us to thrive. I wanted growfish to be a space of authenticity and transparency and it is those values we bring to everything we do.

Polly, founder of Growfish

What has been the biggest challenge you've faced so far, and how have you overcome it?

Growfish.co is a small, female-founded marketing agency and we are in continual motion. We understand that you have to look beyond the bottom line but our clients are often small businesses in the initial stages of growth so we are continually mindful of this balance. We have aimed from the beginning to be impactful yet attainable. We believe in future-proofing your business and supporting an economy that nourishes and sustains the planet we live in.

How do you measure success for your clients?

Quite simply, their growth is our success. When they are able to connect more deeply with conscious consumers, find their authentic narrative, when they experience profit growth with purpose that benefits both their business and community, we know we have succeeded. We work with brands who have a genuine interest in making a positive and lasting impact. They are deeply aligned in the core values and beliefs. There is an element of likemindedness with every brand we work with, which makes our joint successes even more rewarding.

How do you make sure you practice self-care as a busy entrepreneur?

I’ve learned to be a lot stricter around setting boundaries, which not only boosts productivity but improves the opportunities for mindfulness throughout the day. Having a dog also really helps! I also turn my phone off at night and go for long walks listening to a very old ipod so I can’t be distracted or disturbed. The most creative thoughts come from a place of calm and in a world that can be so frenetic and anxiety-inducing, carving out time to let our creative thoughts roam free is incredibly important.

Where do you think the conscious marketing industry is headed in the future?

I think the world is finally waking up to the climate crisis that faces us and because of this businesses are looking for new ways to tackle this. More than ever people are needing to find their voice in the digital world and more people are prioritizing sustainable products and services. There has been a surge of brands getting in touch with us that are looking for cleaner, greener branding and web design with a minimal carbon footprint. It’s an exciting time that's full of potential and we all have a responsibility to succeed. At growfish we always aim to share our passion, creativity and knowledge while promoting greener consumer habits, tools and services that create a positive change for both people and the planet.
